CamGrid
Support
CamGrid streams video between phones and tablets on your own Wi-Fi network. There is no account, no server and no cloud: if something does not work, the answer is almost always on the network between your two devices.
Quick checklist
- Both devices on the same Wi-Fi. Not "same house" — the same network. Guest networks, extenders that create a second network, and 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz bands published as separate networks all break discovery.
- One device sends, the other views. A device cannot do both at once.
- Allow the permissions when asked. CamGrid needs the camera on the sending device. If you denied it permanently, Android stops showing the request and the button does nothing — open Settings → Apps → CamGrid → Permissions and allow it there.
- The screen may be off on the sending device. Android keeps sending. (An iPhone or iPad at the other end has to stay awake: iOS stops the camera when an app goes to the background.)
Common questions
The viewer says "Looking for cameras…" and never finds anything. Client isolation (also called "AP isolation" or "guest mode") on the router blocks devices from seeing each other. Turn it off, or move both devices to the main network. If the other device is an iPhone or iPad, also check that its Local Network permission is allowed.
It says "Different app version". The two devices are running CamGrid versions that speak different protocol versions. Update both from the store.
It says "Device is full". A sending device serves at most two viewers at once. Close CamGrid on another viewer.
Only four cameras show up. Four is the limit on purpose: decoding four 720p streams at once is the comfortable ceiling for phone hardware. Beyond that the device heats up and the battery drains fast.
The picture is dark and choppy in a dim room. That is the camera, not the network. In low light the sensor drops from 30 to around 8 frames per second to gather more light. Measured on a real device: the local preview and the remote stream run at exactly the same rate, so nothing is being lost in transit.
Can I record? No. CamGrid does not record anything, anywhere. Video exists only while it is on screen.
Does it work over the internet or mobile data? No, and it is not meant to. Everything stays on your local network.
Privacy
CamGrid collects nothing. No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising. Video goes straight from one device to the other, encrypted in transit, and is never stored. Full policy: Privacy Policy.
